Of course, this is only a partial reworking as there’s more players and there’s the ODIs too.
The point is – it’s about time these great players’ achievements in World Series Cricket were recognised isn’t it? The England Rebels’ tours to SA are in the First Class Stats FFS!
(WSC stats are available at http://www.howstat.com/cricket/Statistics/WSC/WSCMenu.asp)
They certainly should be included in their FC stats.

Interesting to see that overall averages don’t change a huge amount for these top performers when you add the WSC in… suspect it would make more of a difference for the mid-ranking players.
By: Strebori on May 18, 2011
at 9:08 pm
That surprised me too as some of the wickets on which they played were underprepared – but the boundaries were short too in some instances.
By: tootingtrumpet on May 19, 2011

good to see all these statistics of the great players but who cares 2day???….
By: Vaibhav Sharma on May 18, 2011

No game venerates its history like cricket Vaibhav.
By: tootingtrumpet on May 19, 2011

yeah u r rite…….but cricket needs to move on….to more countries more people and more issues rather than hsitorical stats..!!!!
By: Vaibhav Sharma on May 19, 2011
at 3:31 am
True Vaibhav, but he like to do something a little different at 99.94 – there’s a lot of other sites covering those issues, but I could not find one that had crunched the numbers on WSC stats in even my rudimentary way.
By: tootingtrumpet on May 19, 2011

hmm… correct point made brother!!
By: Vaibhav Sharma on May 19, 2011

Also, the Rest of the World v England matches should also be considered as Test’s since they were considered as Test Caps for some time and the ICC XI is also included in ICC records plus as far as concurrent matches are concerned England played Tests in 1930 in West Indies and New Zealand that started on the same day.
By: rohan on May 19, 2011
at 2:53 am
There’s plenty of scope to address inconsistencies Rohan – and those RoW matches were definitely “Tests”. Sobers’ 254 is hailed as one of the best innings of all time.
By: tootingtrumpet on May 19, 2011
at 3:11 am
That would also mean that Alan Jones would not hold the record of Most FC runs without a Test Cap :)
By: rohan on May 19, 2011
at 4:44 am
He deserves it – I’m sure there’s a few Welshmen would agree!
Who’s next on the list?
By: tootingtrumpet on May 19, 2011
at 6:10 am
Well Barry Richards and Mike Proctor would have had a better record, Clive Rice,Garth Le Roux and Jim Allen would have had Test Caps. Quite deserving candidates actually
By: rohan on May 19, 2011
at 5:07 pm
And Sunny Gavaskar’s final test innings would then be the 187 (or was it 197?) he cracked for RoW against MCC XI, a few months after he retired.
By: Kumar on May 19, 2011

It’s all good, isn’t it Kumar?
By: tootingtrumpet on May 19, 2011

I love stats – even if I’m totally missing the point of an article!
MG Hughes (Aus) 6017 212 28.38
has better stats than JM Anderson (Eng) 6595 212 31.10
That’s made my year that has.
By: JimDavis on May 20, 2011
at 4:44 am
Jimmy is very up and down, as swingers tend to be. Merv never did anything less than charge in every ball – and the bloke at the other end was usually handy too!
By: tootingtrumpet on May 20, 2011
at 8:09 am
Come now Toots at least give me my moment!
Craig McDermott’s the only guy on the list above who played throughout Big Merv’s career. Warnie was there for only the last 2 years or so.
By: JimDavis on May 24, 2011
at 4:47 am
Ha! You’re right Jim – I should have said, “…in comparison to England’s bowling…”!
By: tootingtrumpet on May 24, 2011
at 8:28 am
What I like about that list is that regardless of which way you spin it, GS Chappell has a slightly better average than Punter.
I get so fed up with the continual drone of ‘the best Aus batsman since Bradman’ about Punter, whereas I’m not even sure he’s better than AB.
Chappell is worrying me more and more as a selector but he was a brilliant batsman.
By: Lolly on May 20, 2011
at 6:30 am
I agree Lolly.
By: tootingtrumpet on May 20, 2011
at 8:04 am
Punter was pretty instrumental in the way the team transformed itself after Taylor and Waugh. He’s good in his unique way. Why to compare?
By: Raul Joshi on May 27, 2011
at 11:47 pm
Its great to see Shane Warne’s name right up there at the top. Possibly the best spin bowler of all time. Much better than Muralitharan as Warne’s spin was natural and more accurate.
